Born and brought up in Nagpur, Sumit is an introvert who always thrives for perfection, yet looks for new challenges and loves to incorporate new technologies and traditions into his design offerings. He is an honest businessman who lives up to his client commitments. He also loves to experiment with new materials and concept, as he finds it thrilling.
Though 14 years in the industry, Sumit’s passion towards arts and architecture grew since his school days. And after starting his venture into architecture, he was all thrilled. He is excited to create timeless spaces – as structures are immortal, even after its architect dies. With Sir Norman Foster, Sir BV Doshi and Ar. Charles Correa as his idol, Sumit creates collaborative pieces by gaining a holistic view of our clients’ vision, needs, and context.
With any success story, remains the share of its struggle and hardships. However, Sumit could overcome all the hindrances because of his focus and persistence. He candidly shares his early struggles and points out “In my initial years I had lost the opportunity to do job due to my backbone issues, so I started my own practice. I am an architect who thinks every person is different so how can be the designs same. So in process of doing things differently time is spent which some clients thought is slow designs. Hence lost many projects.”
Even though he had a well settled family business, he plunged into the entrepreneurship bandwagon and started everything from scratch. The scope of architecture practice in Nagpur at that point in time wasn’t well aware of. However, he remained focussed and with confidence he created good designs with practical approach and his honesty paid off and gave him full throttle to his venture. As he used to travel to Mumbai frequently, he could spot the difference and quickly plug those gaps in his service offerings back in Nagpur.
He has a unique style of work, where he treats his client as his own family members. And his perfection and newness to the concepts make it an attractive proposition. Moreover, his strong working relationships with contractors and other specialist disciplines helps to create spaces that often exceeds client expectations, something which is very crucial in his kind of businesses. Being from a non-metro, he rightly uses his talent, resource and energy to be an achiever in the world of entrepreneurship.
