Marine robotics startup EyeROV, a pioneer in India’s blue tech innovation space, has achieved a major milestone by securing a โ‚น47 crore ($5.3 million) contract from the Indian Navy to deliver its advanced underwater remotely operated vehicles (UWROVs). This landmark deal marks a significant step forward in strengthening India’s indigenous defence and marine capabilities.

Under the contract, EyeROV will supply its state-of-the-art ROV named TROUT, an AI-powered underwater vehicle designed for deep-sea missions and high-endurance operations. Built for a wide range of underwater tasks, TROUT is engineered to handle extreme marine conditions and comes equipped with autonomous navigation, advanced imaging systems, and a rugged construction suitable for defence and industrial use.

What Makes EyeROV TROUT Unique?

TROUT is more than just an ROV โ€” it’s a versatile and intelligent underwater robot capable of performing critical operations such as:

  • Underwater surveillance and reconnaissance
  • Monitoring naval environments
  • Structural inspections of marine infrastructure
  • Search and rescue operations
  • Scientific research in extreme underwater conditions

Tested in diverse and challenging environments โ€” from turbulent seas to the icy depths of the Antarctic Ocean โ€” the TROUT ROV has proven its robustness and adaptability in real-world scenarios. Its ability to operate in deep waters with advanced payloads ensures that it can take on complex missions without compromising on performance or reliability.

A Proud Make-in-India Defence Innovation

Founded in 2017 by Johns T Mathai, an alumnus of IIT Delhi, and Kannappa Palaniappan, a former project scientist at the National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT), EyeROV is headquartered in Kochi and has quickly emerged as a leading name in India’s marine robotics space.

With a strong focus on AI-powered autonomous systems, EyeROV designs high-performance ROVs that solve real-world underwater challenges across multiple industries โ€” including defence, oil & gas, maritime infrastructure, and oceanographic research.

Boosting Indiaโ€™s Blue Economy and Naval Strength

This deal not only highlights EyeROV’s engineering excellence but also underscores the Indian Navyโ€™s commitment to embracing indigenous technology as part of the Atmanirbhar Bharat (Self-Reliant India) mission. By investing in homegrown innovations like TROUT, India is strengthening its maritime defence, boosting its blue economy, and encouraging the growth of deep-tech startups in the defence sector.
