Each one of us has a unique quality. Winners are normal people who identify their capabilities and work towards their aim. Let’s find out how she is carving out opportunities for dental students in Odisha.
Dr. Neeta Mohanty, a Deen at Institute of Dental Sciences, Siksha ‘O’ Anusandhan, Bhubaneswar, is conscious of her responsibilities and endeavors to provide dental education for the students of Odisha.
Born and brought up on the islands of India, Andaman, and the Nicobar Islands, Dr. Neeta Mohanty was a studious student who wanted to pursue MBBS after completing her schooling. However, destiny had other plans ready for her. She was denied admission because she was younger than the applicable age. Without any disappointment in her eyes, she constructed her future in academics.
She pursued her BDS and MDS from Kolkata after competing with lakhs of candidates in the West Bengal State Entrance Examination. She completed her MDS in the Oral Pathology and Microbiology department. Thereon, she served several Dental Colleges in the capacity of Associate Professor and Senior Lecturer. She accumulated the experience to head the Oral Pathology and Microbiology Department at the Institute of Dental Sciences, Siksha ‘O’ Anusandhan.
More than her hard work, she feels that it was sincerity and her seniors’ guidance that brought her where she is today. She praises her teachers and professors of her college who inspired her. She is indebted to her teachers of Dr. R Ahmed Dental College and Hospital, Dr. Dibyendu Mazumdar, and Dr. R R Paul for rooting in a medical specialty. She is further grateful to Dr. Jay Gopal Ray for inspiring her to raise her knowledge yet to maintain modesty.
She is aware that a common man cannot afford oral health treatment. She strives to provide dental care at a nominal cost. She has also created educational opportunities for aspirants who are desirous of seeking admission to the dental department. Through her Dental Institute, Dr. Neeta Mohanty is determined to find a permanent solution for oral pre-cancer and cancer detection and treatments. She wants to include villages in her inclusive program to provide them with free oral camps to spread awareness and early detection of oral cancer.
“We provide dental education right from Undergraduate, Postgraduate, Doctoral to skill enhancement programs. Apart from education, it provides dental treatment at nominal costs. It is providing a platform for its faculty and students to carry out research. It also generates job opportunities for many,” says Dr. Neeta Mohanty in a chat with Kenfolios.
Dr. Neeta Mohanty plans to take IDS to greater heights by collaborating with national and international universities for student exchange programs and elevate research and development. She strives to establish IDS as an Oral Cancer Hospital.
She respects the individuality of each person while recognizing that he or she has unique inner-qualities. Humbled and patience has brought her success. Today, she holds ample awards and honor. The Socrates Committee, Oxford United Kingdom, honored her with the title “The Name in Science 2016.” The Indian Dental Association awarded her with the “Lifetime Achievement Award 2018.” The World Dentists Association, Malaysia, conferred her with the Best Dental Administrator Award.
