Sportstech Startup Game Theory Bags Funding From Nithin Kamath, Rohan Bopanna

Bengaluru, October 18, 2023: Sportstech startup Game Theory has raised $2 million in its pre-Series A funding round from Nithin Kamath’s Rainmatter Capital, Rohan Bopanna, WEH Ventures, Prequate Advisory, and angel investors such as Balakrishna Adiga.

Game Theory is a brand focused on enhancing real sports engagement and accessibility through technology. The company aims to make sports more accessible and inclusive for people of all ages and skill levels.

Game Theory has developed a fully-integrated technology platform that provides users with a seamless experience, from booking a court to playing a game. The platform also includes features such as real-time scorekeeping, engaging video highlights, and skill-based matchmaking.

The company plans to use the fresh funding to further develop its technology, implement skill-based matchmaking and coaching products, and expand the reach of smart sporting facilities across the country.

“We are excited to partner with such a distinguished group of investors who share our vision of making sports more accessible and inclusive,” said Rohit Nandan, Co-founder and CEO of Game Theory. “The fresh funding will help us to accelerate our growth and make a significant impact on the sports industry.”

Nithin Kamath, Founder and CEO of Zerodha and Rainmatter Capital, said, “Game Theory is a unique platform that is using technology to make sports more accessible and enjoyable for everyone. We are excited to partner with the company and support its growth mission.”

Rohan Bopanna, Indian tennis player and co-investor in Game Theory, said, “I am passionate about making sports more accessible for everyone. Game Theory is a platform that is doing exactly that, and I am excited to be a part of it.”

The sportstech industry in India is growing rapidly, driven by factors such as increasing internet penetration, rising disposable incomes, and growing awareness about the benefits of fitness. Game Theory is well-positioned to capitalize on this growth and become a leading player in the Indian sportstech industry.

Here are some of the ways in which Game Theory is using technology to enhance real sports engagement and accessibility:

  • Skill-based matchmaking: Game Theory uses a proprietary algorithm to match players of similar skill levels, ensuring that everyone has a fair and enjoyable experience.
  • Coaching products: Game Theory offers a range of coaching products, including online and offline coaching, to help players improve their skills.
  • Smart sporting facilities: Game Theory is working to partner with sporting facilities across the country to make them smarter and more accessible. This includes adding features such as online booking, real-time scorekeeping, and video highlights.

Game Theory’s mission is to get people of all levels playing, by fostering a vibrant community that finds joy and camaraderie in sport. The company’s technology platform is making it easier and more enjoyable for people to play sports, and its investment in coaching products and smart sporting facilities is further enhancing the sports experience for everyone.
