In the heart of Udaipur, where tradition meets modernity, interior designer Suman Borana embarked on a mission to create spaces that are more than just beautiful—they’re meaningful. Armed with a certification in interior design and over a decade of hands-on experience, Suman founded The Archi Design in 2023, driven by her passion to merge aesthetics, functionality, and sustainability.
From its humble beginnings at 07, Talesara Chambers, Bhupalpura, The Archi Design quickly grew into a full-fledged design studio, handling diverse residential and commercial projects. But what truly sets Suman apart is her vision: to bridge the gap between contemporary design and traditional craftsmanship, while promoting eco-friendly practices.

ToggleFor Suman, interior design was never just a profession—it was a calling. “I noticed a lack of personalization in many design solutions,” she recalls. “Homes and spaces felt generic. I wanted to change that by weaving personal stories, cultural elements, and sustainability into every project.”
Her entrepreneurial journey wasn’t without challenges. Market competition, financial constraints, and the responsibility of balancing creative vision with client demands tested her resolve. But through resilience, strategic networking, and continuous upskilling, Suman transformed obstacles into stepping stones. “Every challenge taught me to innovate, adapt, and stay true to my purpose,” she says.
At the core of The Archi Design’s work lies a simple yet powerful belief: design should be client-centric, functional, and sustainable. Suman’s signature style blends modern and traditional aesthetics, seamlessly integrating handcrafted artisanal elements that support local artisans. Whether it’s a sleek urban apartment or a heritage-inspired villa, every space she creates reflects her client’s personality while honoring the environment.
One project especially close to Suman’s heart was designing a stunning 6BHK home. “From our very first meeting, I could feel the client’s emotional connection to her home,” Suman shares. “When I presented the initial design, I braced for revisions—but to my surprise, she approved it instantly. Seeing the design come to life exactly as envisioned, down to the smallest detail, and witnessing her joy was an unforgettable moment.”
As sustainability takes center stage in modern design, Suman has made it a cornerstone of her practice. She actively incorporates eco-friendly materials, energy-efficient solutions, and locally sourced craftsmanship into her projects. “Sustainability is no longer a trend—it’s a responsibility,” she asserts.
Looking ahead, Suman envisions expanding The Archi Design into new markets, collaborating with more artisans, and pioneering innovative, sustainable design solutions. Through her second venture, The Archi Creation, she’s also nurturing India’s rich tradition of handcrafted products, giving them a contemporary platform.
Reflecting on her journey, Suman offers heartfelt advice to aspiring architects and designers:
“Stay curious. Never stop learning. Design with purpose—beauty must also be functional. And most importantly, understand your clients deeply; their trust is the foundation of great design.”
