Ms. Amrita Roy – Founder, ImThere
This lady from Bangalore has created online platform to raise awareness on mental health and get rid of depressions.
ImThere is an online movement to connect people who have faced depression any time in their lives, to create empathy and awareness on how to support them. And the one behind such noble cause is an Engineer from a small town of Siliguri in North Bengal. Based out of Brookefield in Bangalore, this online platform is the brainchild of Amrita Roy, who has been managing it since last one and a half year. Needless to mention these initiatives are an inspiration to today’s youth towards making this world a better place.
A topper from childhood, she was keenly interested in performing arts. She completed Engineering and worked in corporate sector across various geographies like Australia, South East Asia, UK and Europe. She returned to India to pursue her creative career and started with theatre, acting in ads, regional films as well as writing, casting and direction too. She is a trained singer and dancer. She started ImThere in early 2018 with an aim to make the world a happier place in her own small ways.
It was her personal agony of depression that she went through and came out of it and started helping other victims with guidance on connecting to therapists or proper medical care. And to create awareness on mental health deterioration, she banked on her credibility in content creation as she has experience of working in media and films. Also she saw the glaring biasness in the mind-set of people and wanted to bridge the gap through proper campaigns.
Empathetic and sensitive people around her, who understands the problem of depression, acts as her inspiration and drives her to work for the cause. She says “I get to meet people who are trying to contribute to a better society in their own ways. There are common people as well as celebrities. I remember I reached out to Irfan Pathan for a byte for content of ImThere and he said this cause resonates well with him and we created a great content together. There are friends of mine who also have helped create content without charging a penny.”
In order to pursue her dream to work towards the cause of her fight, she left several chances of settling abroad and returned two long term work permits – the reason being, she wants to stay back in India and work towards making this country a happier and less depressed place. She has always been a studious kid and from childhood she has been empathetic soul and kept interacting with various individuals and listen to their struggling stories. As per her understanding, depression is hard to come out from and it’s better to prevent rather cure. It’s her aim to have happy people around and make all the parents and families understand on how to treat their kids or siblings or best friends if they are depressed, that gave birth to her venture.
Apart from working for a cause, she has been extremely talented and has been awarded Corporate Diva Finalist and communication champion, 2018. Sacrificing one’s own career to fight for others is truly inspirational which Amrita is successfully managing.
