This architecture duo is all set to transform Gujarat and Rajasthan through their interior designing, landscaping and urban planning services.
Ar. Nirav Khant & Khushbu Khant – Founder, MAATRA Architects
Based out of Rajkot, Ar Nirav and Khushbu Khant, had jumped into the entrepreneurial bandwagon with their venture ‘MAATRA Architects’ in 2010, after gaining significant industry experiences in their respective fields. And since then life has been a rollercoaster ride for this private architectural firm that’s been jointly managed by Nirav and Khushbu. MAATRA has been closely working with builders and developers from Gujarat and Rajasthan for past several years and have been creating benchmark projects and challenging the competitors.
While Nirav has gathered professional experience with renowned architectural firms before setting up MAATRA, Khushbu got an opportunity to work on the master plan of Duqm city-Oman and Al Raha Beach residency, Abu Dhabi, during her training period. She was a university topper and briefly got into teaching. Her core strength lies in housing planning, landscape design, digital presentation, model making and integration of academic knowledge into execution.
Both Nirav and Khushbu has been an early starter in the field of entrepreneurship and feels that, “Uniqueness in every projects is key of our success. Our every project set up a benchmark for us as well as for our companion. Our strength lies in innovative conceptual thinking backed by demonstrated experience, skills and technical expertise.” Though scaling new heights in a short span of time has been exciting for MAATRA, there has been a lot of challenges along the path of success. It has been an uphill task in finding and exploring new materials to match the modern design ideas. Moreover bridging the generation gap while dealing with varied age group of clients has been a huge challenge. Also, one has to keep up with the various evolving software and technologies to enhance working methodology along with time-saving techniques.
Japanese architect, Tadao Ando, has been an inspiration to both Nirav and Khushbu. According to his verse, Nirav also tries to incorporate three important elements in their design decisions – authentic material, pure geometry, and nature. The proprietor of MAATRA feels that setting up new working techniques that are time-saving, quick in response and beneficial in manifold ways to every professional can take them long way. Also expanding client group will give them exposure and help them grow.
Problems and struggles are a part of entrepreneurial expedition. The same holds true for Nirav and Khushbu too. Adapting to the client’s needs and trying to convince them about the design ideas and themes has consistently been a challenging area. Not every client is aware about design ethics and visualization. But then while on the job they eventually learned to live with it. Their phenomenal work in architectural space has been widely praised and rewarded. They have been recognised by CNBC News Channel for affordable housing category in high rise. Project Cloud 9 – AG Reality won the award for best residential project in Gujarat Real Estate Awards 2014-15. Infact, MAATRA office got featured in HAW eMagazine. Lately, Khushbu has been the recipient of “India Inspirational women awards 2020”. To all the young aspirants in the entrepreneurial world the Khant duo advices to stick to the basics and remain abreast with the latest tools and techniques in design and architectural space.
