Gunjan Foundation: Empowering Futures Through Consistent Educational Support
Education is often the dividing line between opportunity and limitation. For children born into financially constrained households, access to quality education can determine whether they move forward or remain trapped in cycles of hardship. Gunjan Foundation has spent more than two decades working to ensure that this dividing line does not become a barrier. Since 2004, the Foundation has been dedicated to empowering underprivileged children and youth by making education accessible, sustainable, and transformative.
Founded by Ms. Sushma Singhvi, Gunjan Foundation emerged from a clear understanding of grassroots realities. Many families aspire to educate their children but lack the resources to sustain schooling, let alone higher education. Recognising this gap, the Foundation structured its work around long-term educational support rather than one-time assistance. Over the years, more than 2,300 students across India have benefited from Gunjan Foundation’s programs, many of whom are first-generation learners.
Gunjan Foundation’s approach to education is holistic. It understands that academic success depends on a supportive ecosystem. Financial constraints often lead to school dropouts, irregular attendance, and compromised learning outcomes. To address this, the Foundation supports students with tuition fees, books, uniforms, transportation, and other academic essentials. By reducing these pressures, students are able to focus on learning with stability and confidence.
The Gunjan-Sashakt initiative plays a critical role in supporting school education from Nursery to Class XII. During the academic year 2024–25, more than 260 students received support through this program. Many of them study at Shishu Kalyan Senior Secondary School in Gurugram. Gunjan-Sashakt ensures continuity in education during formative years, helping students build strong academic foundations and remain engaged in the learning process.
For students ready to step into higher education, Gunjan-Utkarsh provides a vital bridge. This initiative supports college and vocational education across disciplines such as engineering, medicine, law, commerce, nursing, and computer applications. Each year, approximately 40–45 students receive scholarships and mentorship under Gunjan-Utkarsh. These students often become the first in their families to enter professional courses, marking a significant shift in their socio-economic journey.
Gunjan Foundation also recognises the importance of communication skills and personality development in today’s world. Through Gunjan-Aayaam, students receive support in English language learning, confidence building, and academic reinforcement. Conducted primarily through online classes, this program helps students overcome learning gaps and express themselves more effectively. Many participants have shown improved academic results and greater self-confidence.
The Foundation’s impact extends beyond Delhi-NCR through its regional chapters. The Jaipur Chapter focuses on higher education scholarships, English and computer training, career counselling, and initiatives that promote girls’ education. Meanwhile, the Ahmedabad Chapter supports underprivileged students through scholarships, educational kit distributions, and the Swadhyaya Sadan—a self-learning centre that provides students with a quiet and structured space for study.
Transparency and accountability are central to Gunjan Foundation’s operations. The organisation has received consistent recognition for its governance and impact, including being named among the Top 20 NGOs Making a Difference by LBB Delhi-NCR and Top 10 Most Impactful NGOs by Brand Honchos. Repeated Gold Category ratings from the Give Foundation further reflect its commitment to ethical practices.
Beyond recognition, Gunjan Foundation measures success through the lives it transforms. Many students supported by the Foundation go on to complete their education, secure employment, and contribute to their families’ financial stability. Several alumni return as volunteers and mentors, reinforcing a culture of giving back.
As Gunjan Foundation looks ahead, it remains focused on expanding its reach, strengthening skill-development programs, and fostering long-term self-reliance. Through consistent effort and community support, the Foundation continues to empower futures—one student, one education, one opportunity at a time.
