Dr. Sonali Basu – Principal, Sun International School
This MD powered with spiritual teachings of Bhagwat Geeta is reaching out to underprivileged students to erase their fear and impart trainings and teachings for a better future.
This doctor turned educationalist with many feathers to her cap is a true inspiration for the young generation who want to make it big in their entrepreneurial journey. She always stressed on the power of “WE” rather than focussing on “I” and that’s probably her success mantra. She is indebted to the All Mighty and believes in His supreme power, which have been guiding her since her childhood till date. A strong believer in God, Sonali even feels that it’s because of doing the right thing at right time with right ability brings in all the achievement in life.
Recognised as renowned educationist by JCI, Amravati and being awarded by Dr. Abdul Kalam Award for Best Principal, Darjeeling – undoubtedly this veteran educationalist with 25 years in her profession can inspire today’s budding entrepreneurs. She has been a dynamic business leader throughout, with great experience in running schools and educational establishments.
It was those hardship of her school days that always wanted her to help those children who faced the same problems in school or those who, in spite of tortures, cannot express their problems. Dr Sonali’s specialisation in Psychotherapy and Education made her reach out to the helpless group and encourage them to come out of shell. She also helped grooming the teachers to bring out a parent within them that in turn helped a lot in building strong bond.
It’s by virtue of this family support, she could sail through the rough waves of entrepreneurial expedition. Professional career for her isn’t a bed full of roses, being a single mother to her kids and managing top positions of various schools was never an easy task. But she always believed in “forgive and forget” to those who bothered her in her adversities.
She has been awarded with National Mahila Rattan Gold Medal Award by Indian Solidarity Council, New Delhi, for outstanding achievements in the field of Education; proves beyond doubt her mettle as a star educationalist. She has been a fabulous dancer too and has been recognised by Lion’s Club for being the “best dancer”. During her college days, she was awarded Gold Medal for outstanding performance in Biochemical Medicines by Calcutta Biomedical College, followed by another Gold Medal award in M.Phil. For Environmental Science.
Her believe in God and determination to do good for the society gives her that extra zing in her entrepreneurial characteristics. She believes, God is being kind to her and given her every strength to fight all adversities. However, whatever she does, she puts in her 100% hard work and dedication. Besides looking after her own kids, she has successfully worked for the children of Prostitutes, orphan children, and old age people – that itself speaks volume about her persistence, hard work and philanthropic mindset.
